Say Farewell to Calluses on your Feet
Smooth skin is just a step away

If you are like most people, you probably find patches of yellow or dull skin on the bottom of your feet, from time to time, that are especially thick and rough. These patches are clinically recognized as calluses and can become painful or sore over time.
So where do calluses even come from?
Well, calluses develop when the skin is consistently subject to force and friction. Nevertheless, callouses on the feet can arise from prolonged walking, running, and/or standing. Oftentimes, aging bolsters the occurrence and severity of calluses, as the tissue that provides natural padding under feet begins to degenerate. With so many factors contributing to their development, it is no wonder why they are such a common issue! If you really think about it, we put a tremendous amount of pressure on our feet, as they support the entirety of our weight all day, every day.
How can you treat calluses?
Your treatment options are dependent on how troublesome your symptoms are. Luckily, most calluses are far from dangerous and can actually heal without much intervention. If you are not in pain, but you want to improve the appearance of your callus(s), you can always invest in a foot file. Carefully rubbing calluses with a file can help strip built-up dead skin to reveal the fresh and delicate layer underneath. Afterward, don’t forget to soak your feet in warm water and replenish new skin with moisturizer. It is also smart to invest in a gentler pair of shoes or insertable shoe pad for extra support and comfort.
If the state of your callus is too uncomfortable to withstand, you can always reach out to our very own podiatrists! A podiatrist can cut away dead skin with specialized tools and prescribe soothing ointments if necessary. Attempting to treat particularly burdensome calluses on your own can further agitate skin and lead to infection. When in doubt, it is best to consult a professional on such matters. These are just a few tips and tricks to consider when evading calluses and prioritizing baby-smooth skin.
